The Holly Lodge Community Centre in Makepeace Avenue is currently run by a committee of volunteers with no paid staff since all Camden funding was withdrawn last year. The Centre itself in Makepeace Avenue, is below sheltered accommodation for the elderly, and is an ideal spot for workshops, meetings and classes, having a kitchen and a sizeable hall that can be divided into two or three separate areas if needed. Some classes such as meditation, judo and yoga still take place, as well as art classes, and one-off workshops. The hall is available for hire for regular or one off activities. More information on hall availability can be obtained by email at email@example.com or messages may be left on 020 8342 9524.
The committee is aiming to use the funds still left to provide some community activities such as monthly afternoon teas, since the daily lunch club had to be discontinued, and to smarten the Centre itself to make it a more attractive venue. Since 2013, the Holly Lodge Committee has been working in partnership with Queen’s Crescent Community Association [QCCA] to set up the rebuilt Family Centre on Oakeshott Avenue as a full time nursery for babies up to five year olds. An after school service will also be provided for children up to eight years old. The Holly Lodge Nursery opened in May 2014 and will be recruiting fully for September. Enquiries can be made to the nursery manager Liz Nash, on 020 8347 9500.
