As part of its Community Investment Programme, the Council is proposing to redevelop the HNCC site – in part to finance the refurbishment of the Centre. Our main block, although solidly built and serviceable, is in need of new electrics, a new heating system and new windows, as well needing some internal remodelling to make its rooms more adaptable for a wider range of activities. Our hall is in need of major repairs, or even a complete rebuild.
The Council’s proposal is to keep and refurbish our main block and to demolish our hall, but to replace it with a new hall, sunk into the ground and big enough to continue all our existing activities. It is proposing to pay for all of this by building housing on top of the new hall and on the site of the old hall.
The Council is consulting with us on its plans as they develop, and we will continue to hold it to its pledge to refurbish the Centre and replace the current hall with a new one which will be around the same size as our existing one, which will allow us to continue to offer all the existing activities we currently have.
We will continue to keep you informed on our blog.
