I am a Highgate resident, married to Leila with one son, and have lived in Highgate on and off since 1966. I am a lawyer by training but have had a career in financial management, mostly in London. In the course of my career I have also lived in Australia, Holland, Argentina and Venezuela. I retired as Director of Finance of the Royal Dutch Shell Group in 2001, and subsequently was chairman of the Shell Pension Fund, and of the audit committees of Lloyds of London and O2 plc. I am a member of the Highgate Society, and the immediate past president of the Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution.
I see the Highgate Newtown Community Centre as a valuable community resource for a part of Highgate that needs support, and am happy to provide it with whatever assistance I can.

Fran has been a community centre user for the last 29 years, initially with her children taking full advantage of the many facilities on offer and more recently teaching a regular Iyengar yoga class. New to the role of trustee she is delighted to be in a position where she can contribute to the future success of our valued community resource.

James has been frequenting the community centre over the last 3 year with his two boys; taking advantage of the superb Under 5's activities provided during term time. During this period, James has seen at first hand the tireless work the staff and volunteers put in to maintain this valuable community resource; and at the end of 2014 felt he could lend a hand, and joined the trustees. James is a Chartered Surveyor and lives locally, with his oldest child now terrorising Brookfield School Nursery staff rather than Amanda.

I’ve been involved with Highgate Newtown Community Centre for many years and have been a Board member for several years. I’ve worked in the local community on many intergenerational projects which include all of the mosaic panels situated in the local area. Currently I run a weekly sewing skills/fabric printing class which is intergenerational and I’m most proud of the friendships which have happened over the years between different generations and cultures.

I have been in teaching since 1970. I was a headteacher for ten years in Brixton and then twelve years in Highgate before retiring in 2009. I spent some years after this working part time as a tutor for the London Diocesan Board of Education’s teacher training programme. I became involved with Highgate Newtown in 2013, first in my role as chair of the Holly Lodge Community centre, to maintain and expand a good working relationship between the centres, and then in 2017 as a trustee for HNCC.
