Highgate Newtown Community Partners Opens State-of-the-Art Bertram Street Centre

A revitalised community hub at 25 Bertram Street has officially opened its doors, bringing together residents of all ages and backgrounds for learning, support, and recreation.

Highgate Newtown Community Partners (HNCP), has officially launched its new, state-of-the-art community centre at 25 Bertram Street following a major £35 million-plus redevelopment. The centre now offers a wide range of services, including a multi-use sports hall, hairdressers, a laundrette, and a cookery school. Specialist mental health support, speech and language programmes, and parenting courses are also available.

The centre is designed as a welcoming space for the entire community, hosting activities such as pottery classes, creative sessions, and physical activities for all ages. The facility also provides support and activities for older residents, ensuring inclusivity across generations.

Local cabinet members, residents, and MPs attended the official opening on Friday, 16 May 2025, joined by schoolchildren from Channing School and La Sainte Union choirs, who performed popular hits. The event featured hands-on activities like pottery and pizza making, and showcased the range of support available through Camden’s Children’s Centres and Family Hubs.

Andrew Sanalitro, Director of HNCP, highlighted the importance of building relationships and connections within the community, stating that the new centre will help people feel less isolated and more able to lead full and happy lives. With its diverse facilities and inclusive ethos, the Bertram Street Centre is set to become the heart of the Highgate Newtown community once again.
